Batteries Solutions

The battery is the heart of the electrical system for our equipment / Vehicle. In order for the electrical system to
work properly we need to ensure that we perform regular maintenance on the battery.

  • Lets take a look at the list below and see what we can do to ensure that our battery will  what it needs to do when we need it.
  • Regularly inspect the battery for any signs of damage or corrosion. Check for cracks, bulges, or leaks in the battery casing.
  • Clean the battery terminals and cables to prevent corrosion. Use a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralize any acid build-up, and a wire brush to scrub the terminals clean.
  • Ensure that the battery is securely mounted. A loosely mounted battery can vibrate, leading to damage and reduced lifespan.
  • Check the battery’s water level if it is not a maintenance-free battery. Use distilled water to top up the cells if necessary, making sure not to overfill.
  • Test the battery voltage regularly using a multimeter. A fully charged 12V battery should read around 12.6 volts or higher.
  • Check the drive belt for wear and tension. A worn or loose belt can reduce the effectiveness of the alternator.
  • Use the correct battery for your vehicle and driving conditions. Refer to the vehicle’s manual for specifications.
  • Regularly inspect the battery hold-downs and brackets to ensure they are in good condition and securely fastened.
  • Be aware of warning signs of a failing battery, such as dim headlights, slow engine crank, or the check engine light.
  • Consider professional maintenance checks for the battery during routine equipment / vehicle servicing.
  • Keep the battery charged. If the equipment or vehicle is not used frequently, consider using a battery maintainer or trickle charger to keep it charged.

  • Avoid leaving the equipment or vehicle’s electrical components on when the engine is off. This includes lights, radio, and other accessories, which can drain the battery.
  • Monitor the battery’s age and replace it when necessary. Most car batteries last between 3 to 5 years.
  • Maintain a clean environment under the hood. Excessive dirt and grime can impact battery performance.
  • Ensure that the alternator is functioning properly, as it charges the battery while the car is running. A faulty alternator can lead to battery problems.
  • Protect the battery from extreme temperatures. In cold weather, use a battery blanket or heater; in hot weather, park in the shade or use a thermal protective case.
  • Minimize short trips, as they don’t provide enough time for the battery to recharge fully.
  • Periodically perform a load test to assess the battery’s overall health and capacity.
  • Ensure the battery is properly insulated in extreme climates to maintain its temperature and performance.
  • Be cautious with aftermarket accessories that draw power from the battery, as they can lead to premature battery drain.

In conclusion, maintaining your battery will help extend the life and help prevent the possibility of being stranded on the side of the road or even on a job site when your trying to use that equipment to get an important project done.
